reddit alienRIP /u/mylasttie

I sifted through the last 10 months of content from /r/GetMotivated, /r/lifeprotips, /r/explainlikeimfive, and /r/AskReddit. Here are the best Reddit posts that I could find:

  1. /r/GetMotivated/comments/2xc947/text_soon_i_will_be_gone_forever_but_thats_okay/ – If there is one thing that can put things into perspective,  it’s the words of a dying man. It is all too easy to lose sight of what matters most. Life is full of distractions and a message like this can help refresh our priorities. /u/mylasttie may be dead now, but you aren’t. Listen to his/her words!
  2. /r/LifeProTips/comments/3geuph/lpt_you_will_never_feel_like_doing_something_that/ – “Just do it.” said with different words. While many of us know this, maybe hearing it said differently can help internalize the message and improve its effect. Also, one of the top comments suggests “tricking yourself” by compromising a 5 minute commitment to working on whatever you’re tempted to procrastinate.
  3. /r/GetMotivated/comments/3h76yq/text_dont_rely_on_motivation_for_anything_it_is/ – The other main ingredient to reaching your goals – discipline. Motivation is fleeting, circumstances are constantly changing, but the discipline you’ve developed will carry you through adversity.
  4. /r/LifeProTips/comments/3mb1vn/lpt_how_to_give_a_quick_impromptu_speech_or_toast/ –  Every now and then we find ourselves in important social gatherings and it is hard to find the right words to connect with people and stand out. Sometimes you have to be the one to get up and make a toast, maybe distract from some other awkward mishap. In any case, people will remember you in a positive way.
  5. /r/AskReddit/comments/3hw3vu/phds_of_reddit_what_is_a_dumbed_down_summary_of/ – PhD’s of Reddit speak: a simple way of expressing something very esoteric. A good read to get a random sample of what (almost) all fields in science are investigating.
  6. /r/AskReddit/comments/2yw771/what_free_things_on_the_internet_should_everyone/cpdiszg – collection of free online educational resources. There are links within that will help you learn: new languages (programming or spoken), academic subjects, how to cook, play an instrument, and so on.
  7. /r/AskReddit/comments/3oqzvr/what_is_that_one_trick_that_they_really_dont_want/ – Not as dramatic as some of the previous submissions, but has small bits of useful information from many individual users, adding up to a lot of “net advice”. Heh.
  8. /r/LifeProTips/comments/3r39fz/lpt_having_a_light_on_behind_your_monitor_like_a/ – Easy tip, you can  just read the title for this one. Top comment links an article on lighting.
  9. /r/explainlikeimfive/comments/3ieifd/eli5_stephen_hawkings_new_theory_on_black_holes/ – /u/Iprocrastinatetmrw artfully and concisely summarizes a complex theory in physics. It also got 11 Reddit golds and is arguably one of the best ELI5s thus far. You don’t even have to be interested in black holes to enjoy reading it.
  10. /r/explainlikeimfive/comments/3az0fa/eli5_what_does_the_tpp_transpacific_partnership/ – Now that we’re feeling more empowered, why not spend 5 minutes learning what the fuss is over the “TPP” meetings. A comic is linked to ease the burden of understanding the complexity of the issue.
